Well we are into the new year, and still rolling high from a fantastic concert last Saturday where we performed with the BBC Philharmonic and the Leeds Cathedral Choir. The kids were very good if a little over awed, looking very smart in their uniforms. Some were so small they had to stand on an extra row up on the risers.
The concert started with Dukas Sorcerer’s Apprentice , and I am sure everyone was mentally washing those pesky pots with Micky Mouse, while the percussion section of the orchestra was able to really have fun as well as in the following Benjamin Britten’s ‘The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’.
After the break we all let rip with ‘O Fortuna!’ – we probably woke the pigeons snoozing outside. The tenor Daniel Norman set the tone when he almost danced his first aria opening up the peculiarly irreverent nature of the whole piece. Next job – finish learning the Beethoven for our 3 concerts in early May and we must start on Belshazzar’s Feast.
