In a LICS production we joined with the Leeds Festival Chorus and St Peter’s Singers on an extremely hot day to perform this very moving work. Simon Wright led us and the Hallé orchestra with precision.

As one reviewer put it: “The massed choirs responded to Wright’s dynamism with blistering needle point attack, whether as Souls in Purgatory, Anglicals, or the ferocious chorus of Demons. Praise to the Holiest In the Height burst into an incandescent cry of exultation from choirs and orchestra, beefed up by the sonorities of the Town Hall’s mighty organ played by Darius Battiwalla”

Audience members commented that the “Praise” brought tingles and joy.  Well done Joe to lead us to this wonderful concert at the end of your first year.

]]> We damned Faust https://www.leedsphil.com/stories/we-damned-faust/ Sat, 19 May 2018 10:14:07 +0000 http://www.leedsphil.com/?p=3702 May the 12th, the weather improved and we all put out a good rendition of the Damnation of Faust.  Despite the difficulty of singing in French after just working in German and Latin for the previous concerts we all cracked it and the men of the choruses were magnificent.  All the rehearsal effort was worth it.  And the reviews were good.

On now to our season finale at Bolton Abbey.

David was very patient with us and I think produced a fantastic performance.  The reviewers seemed to agree:

To have a full venue was also a major boost to our morale and the view from the stage as the hall filled was stunning.
